Prenatal to Five
BHK early childhood programs focus on the well-being of
the whole child through the provision of comprehensive
education, health, nutrition, and family development
services.
Highly trained, degreed teachers and caregivers provide
support for children's growth, development, and learning
within the context of nurturing relationships with
adults and peers. Responsive caregiving, effective
teaching practices, planned opportunities, and ongoing
assessment promote learning and development within a
well-designed environment that meets the needs of each
child and provide children opportunities to experience,
explore, create and problem solve.
BHK has adopted the following guiding principles to
prepare young children for success in school and beyond.
-
Each child is unique
and can succeed
-
Learning occurs within
the context of relationships
-
Families are
children's first and most important caregivers,
teachers, and advocates.
-
Children learn best
when they are emotionally and physically safe and
secure.
-
A variety of active
learning experiences contributes to a child's
intellectual, social, emotional, and physical
development.
-
Areas of development
are integrated, and children learn many concepts and
skills at the same time.
-
Teaching must be
intentional and focused on how children learn and
grow.
-
Classrooms are safe,
nurturing and engaging learning environments.
-
Families and BHK staff
are engaged as partners, committing to working
together on children's behalf
-
Children have diverse
strengths rooted in their family's culture,
background, language and beliefs.
